What to Wear & Preparation Tips
Choosing the right outfit and preparing a few small details can make a big difference in the final result of your photos.
This guide will help you feel confident, comfortable and perfectly aligned with the atmosphere of Rome.
Choosing the Right Colors
Rome’s architecture is rich in warm tones, textures and historic details.
To create visually balanced and elegant images, certain colors work particularly well:
- white, beige and neutral tones
- pastel colors
- warm tones like red, yellow or soft orange
- deep tones like blue or green
These colors help you stand out naturally while harmonizing with the city.
Very dark or overly complex patterns can sometimes reduce the visual impact of the scene.
Black from my experience only works for men formal suits, allowing for classy portraits in specific elegant locations.
Styling Tips for Women & Men
For Women
Depending on the season:
-
Spring / Summer → flowy dresses are always a beautiful choice
- they add movement, elegance and vibrance to the images
- colorful tones or soft pastels work particularly well
- Autumn / Winter → layered outfits, coats and textured fabrics create a more refined and cinematic look
Shoes are also an important detail:
- heels photograph beautifully and add elegance
- however, Rome involves walking on uneven streets
A great solution is to wear comfortable walking shoes between locations and keep the heels for the photo spots.
I’ll always allow time for quick changes, and I can assist by holding your bag during the session so you can move freely and enjoy the experience.
For Men
A clean, well-fitted outfit usually works best, but personal style is always welcome. Whether you prefer a classic look or something more distinctive, what matters most is feeling comfortable and confident in what you wear.
Some simple guidelines:
- neutral or classic tones (white, beige, blue, black)
- shirts, polos or light knitwear depending on the season
- avoid overly large logos or very busy patterns
Layering (such as a jacket or overshirt) can add variety and depth to the photos without needing a full outfit change.

Coordinating Outfits
If you are shooting as a couple, family or group, coordination can improve the visual result.
This doesn’t necessarily mean matching outfits, but rather choosing colors that complement each other. The goal is to create a cohesive look.
For families, an example can also be a recurring color with a different piece of clothing on each person (a sweater, socks, a scarf, shoes, etc.).

Comfort Matters
The experience involves walking through the city, so comfort is essential.
- wear comfortable shoes for walking between locations
- you can always bring an alternative pair for the photos
- choose outfits that allow natural movement
Feeling comfortable will directly reflect in your expressions and body language.
Optional Outfit Change
You are welcome to bring 1-2 optional outfit changes to add variety to your photos.
This can be especially useful for:
- transitioning from casual to more elegant
- creating a different mood within the same session
- pairing colors with locations
Accessories & Personal Touches
Small details can add personality and uniqueness to your photos.
Examples include:
- sunglasses
- summer hats
- light scarves
- sun umbrella
- hand fan
- jewelry
- small props or meaningful items
For families with children:
- a small toy or comfort item like a plushie
- fun accessories like bubbles
These elements can help create more natural and playful moments.

Preparation Tips
A few simple steps before the session can make the experience smoother:
- arrive on time and well rested
- avoid carrying heavy or unnecessary items
- bring water, or even better a refillable bottle*
- plan your outfit in advance
*did you know that water from the "nasoni" (big noses), the fountains you see all around Rome, is one of the freshest in Italy? constantly sourced from springs and aqueducts
Final Note
There is no “perfect outfit”: the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident.
When that happens, the photos will naturally reflect your personality and the experience will feel even more enjoyable.
